Uber Launches ‘Quiet Mode’ For Customers Who Dislike Chatty Drivers

Now you can enjoy your ride in peace!

Too tired to chat with your Uber driver and just want to get home? Now it’s possible to have that option and enjoy your ride in silence.

According to recent reports, ride-hailing app Uber has launched a new feature that allows riders to request minimal conversation from the driver. Uber’s new ‘Quiet Mode’ is now available for users who book Uber Black and Uber Black SUV premium rides.

Uber users may select from ‘Quiet Preferred,’ ‘Happy to Chat’ or ‘No preference’ under the ‘Conversation’ heading. For some customers, this may mean taking a quick nap or maybe playing some mobile games without any driver interruption.

The company said:

“If you need to respond to emails or are in the mood for a nap, make your trip a quieter one with just one tap.

“If you’re in the mood to chat, that’s an option too.”

Moreover, users may also use other new features such as “(requesting) help with their luggage and (setting) their preferred temperature ahead of time,” according to the DailyMail.

“We know that when riders choose Uber Black and Uber Black SUV, they want a consistent, high quality experience every time they ride,” Uber explained. “With these new features and more to come, we’re excited to ensure that our riders can arrive relaxed and refreshed, wherever they’re headed.”

Uber Black rides are usually 100% more expensive than the regular Uber X.

Meanwhile, it looks like the public is divided about this new Uber feature.

In a National article, we read varying reactions regarding ‘quiet mode’ with some calling it “a blessing in disguise” and with others saying it “dehumanizes” drivers.

One Twitter user shared:

“As an Uber driver I can tell you we aren’t offended when you say you would rather not talk, [it] works both ways. There are days where I just want to drive in peace and I get passengers telling me all about their lives so I kindly tell them I don’t feel like being chatty and they get it.”

Another pointed out:

“I’ve had over chatty Uber drivers react badly when I’ve asked for quiet. As someone with anxiety it is a scary thing to do, and solo women often feel threatened in cabs. It’s sad but a reality [is] that asking can be hard.”
