Student “Adopts” Homeless Cousin and Her Baby after Recently Reconnecting on Facebook.

"If it's one or two years of my life I have to put on hold to make sure two lives are going to be saved it's nothing at all." - Tommy Connolly

Tommy Connolly, 23, has not seen his favorite baby cousin, Angela (not her real name), for the last 10 years, so he was excited when she reconnected with him on Facebook.

It was then he learned that her heroin-addict parents abandoned her at a young age, she left school after Year 6, got addicted to drugs herself but went sober at 15 years old only to get pregnant at 16. What made matters worse is that the child’s father was later imprisoned and she was living in the streets.

Tommy rushes to Angela’s aid, saying her situation is not her fault and she needs help.

Without second thought, Tommy drove to where Angela said she was staying, took her in, and worked extra hard so he could provide food and a better shelter for them both. Considering he was a university student, Tommy had to work extra hard not just to work for their basic needs but to accomplish his studies as well.

Tommy had to present a paper despite having no sleep when Angela gave birth

On the eve Angela gave birth to Joshua, Tommy had to finish a paper at the hospital and presented it in school despite not having slept at all.

Tommy also took turns with Angela in taking care of the child. Not only did he “adopt” his cousin, he also took care of her child as well.

With the arrival of Angela and Joshua, Tommy’s life has changed. He had to give up his sports training so he could have time to care for his little family, study, and work. He certainly lost his social life yet the young man did not mind. He said all his friends were athletes, anyway, so they were not fond of partying.

Tommy has gone back to college but continues to work to meet their needs

When asked why he helped Angela, Tommy said he did not expect the media attention because he was just trying to help a person in need.

It’s not her fault. She’s just a little girl who needed help. Obviously I’m not going to let her stay on the streets. Everyone likes to tell me this is such a big responsibility, but I wasn’t thinking about uni or work or anything, all I was doing was thinking that she needed me.

At first when Joshua came into the world I didn’t have an emotional attachment, all I was doing was looking after Angela. But I really do care for him and in a way he is my kid, I’ve taken on the father role as you’d imagine. Angela does 90 per cent of the work – and if it’s one or two years of my life I have to put on hold to make sure two lives are going to be saved it’s nothing at all.

What a wonderful young man! Tommy has since returned to college but continues to put his athletics training on hold so he could financially support his adopted little family.

His brother Liam took pity on him, so the older brother launched a GoFundMe campaign to help the little family have a better financial situation. Check it out if you don’t mind helping Tommy’s little family.
