Superman Reboot Will Reportedly Introduce Black Man Of Steel

"There is a new, powerful and moving Superman story yet to be told."

  • The upcoming Superman movie will be a reboot, reports are saying.
  • The film, which will be produced by J.J. Abrams and written by Ta-Nehisi Coates will tell a “new, powerful, and moving Superman story.”
  • Details are yet to be announced but many believe Henry Cavill will not star in the movie.

According to recent reports, Warner Bros’ Superman reboot will be starring a Black actor as the iconic DC superhero. So far, we know that J.J. Abrams has been tapped to produce to new movie and he will be working alongside acclaimed writer Ta-Nehisi Coates.

Of course, we all know that Henry Cavill has portrayed character for several films in the DC Extended Universe namely Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Justice League (2017). He will again appear in Zack Synder’s Justice League (2021).

There’s a new Superman movie but Henry Cavill won’t be playing the role?

Up to now, however, it remains uncertain if he will continue playing as Superman in the near future. Besides, there are currently no plans for a Man of Steel sequel, despite several directors – such as Christopher McQuarrie – showing interest in helming the project.

If the reports are to be believed, a reboot introducing a new Superman is highly likely.

While details are scarce about the upcoming film as there are still no announcements about a director, an actor, or even the plot but many believe that Abrams have already teased fans about what to expect.

Abrams said:

“There is a new, powerful and moving Superman story yet to be told. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with the brilliant Mr. Coates to help bring that story to the big screen, and we’re beyond thankful to the team at Warner Bros. for the opportunity.”

In DC Comics’ Final Crisis #7, the comics company debuted the appearance of a Black Superman from a different world. His alter ego is Calvin Ellis – he’s also president of the United States!

Meanwhile, Coates also shared his feelings of joining the project:

“To be invited into the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros., DC Films and Bad Robot is an honor. I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America’s most iconic mythic hero.”

Coates is the author behind books such as We Were Eight Years in Power: An American Tragedy, The Beautiful Struggle, and Between the World and Me. In the comics world, he has written stories for Captain America and Black Panther.
