As Covid-19 Incident Manager Dr. Sylvain Aldighieri put it:

“The situation in Brazil is concerning countrywide. Our concern at the moment is also for the Brazilian citizens themselves in this context of health services that are overwhelmed.”

Meanwhile, several areas in Bolivia and Colombia have seen a double increase in cases. In Ecuador and Peru, intensive care unites are nearing full capacity.

“More than half of all global deaths reported over the last week were in the Americas – a sober reminder of the human toll of this pandemic,” Dr Etienne shared last April 6, Wednesday. “Over the last week, the United States, Brazil and Argentina were among the 10 countries in the world registering the highest number of new infections worldwide.”

“We cannot ease public health and social interventions without good data and justification,” she likewise added, pointing out that slowing and stopping virus transmission will definitely need “decisive action by local and national governments.”
