Being Single Is Now a Disability, According to the World Health Organization

As if being single and alone weren't bad enough, the World Health Organization has classified those without a single partner as having a disability.

The World Health Organization will change its definition of disabilities to include those without a sexual partner. So single folks out there will now be classified as “infertile” but it’s not arbitrary or insulting, as this is merely for purposes of priority for in vitro fertilization.

This new classification will allow single people, as well as gay men and women (whether single or not) to receive the same priority as couples. What this means is that those who don’t have a partner can now also be given funds for IVF.

Being single can now be classified as being “infertile,” at least when it comes to medical procedures.

Naturally, some people are unhappy with the classification. According to pro-life activist and director of Comment on Reproductive Ethics, Josephine Quintavalle:

“This absurd nonsense is not simply re-defining infertility but completely side-lining the biological process and significance of natural intercourse between a man and a woman.”

In defense of the new classification, WHO’s Dr. David Adamson asks explains that it seals any individual’s right to reproduce whether or not they have a partner, particularly for those in countries where the government provides healthcare and public funding for IVF procedures. He goes on to say that labeling single people would alter who should be included in the group of people who can receive this benefit.

In vitro fertilization is a medical procedure that can allow those with difficulty conceiving to have a child.

The World Health Organization has yet to make these new terms official and we can only speculate how governments will react to this new definition.

But the bottom line is, to all you single people out there, congratulations! With the perhaps unsavory title comes the benefits of IVF priority.
