The video and the uploader didn’t explain why this trick works, but netizens believe it functions similar to a homopolar motor which is exactly the same technology that powers the incredibly lethal rail guns the US military is developing. But this use of the science behind the technology is of course a whole lot safer.

The Railgun, Real US Weapon Straight from Science Fiction.

Considered as a theoretical dream for decades, the railgun is unlike any other weapon used in warfare. And it’s quite real too. An electromagnetic railgun offers a velocity previously not achievable in any conventional weapon, speeds that are incredibly powerful on their own. In fact, since the projectile doesn’t have any explosives itself, it relies upon that kinetic energy to do damage.

Instead of relying on gun powder or explosive device to fire a projectile, the railgun uses an electromagnetic current to accelerate a non-explosive bullet at several times the speed of sound. The result: a terrifying weapon that can hit a target 100 miles or more away within minutes.
