Being a Marvel Cinematic Universe star undoubtedly has its perks. In addition to earning millions for one film alone, you also get some amazing gifts from your co-stars. Chris Evans has admitted that his Avengers: Endgame co-star Robert Downey Jr. presented him with a car. And not just any car: The $275,000 Chevrolet Camaro was designed by Downey and has an awesome Captain America theme.
Chris Evans spoke about the pricey present when he was a guest in an episode of Jay Leno’s Garage. According to Evans, Robert Downey Jr. had repeatedly asked him what kind of cars he liked while they were filming Avengers: Endgame. Although Evans had a hunch that the real Iron Man was planning something, he never expected a personalized gift from his Avengers: Infinity War co-star.
So what’s so special about Downey’s gift to Evans? The 1967 Chevrolet Camaro was fully restored and customized by SpeedKore, a custom car designer located near Milwaukee in Grafton, Wisconsin. Downey himself made sure that the vehicle would have some awesome details including the Captain America shield on the steering wheel, Ford Performance Recaro seats and Eureka European leather upholstery.
It doesn’t just look good. The Camaro also boasts of a Chevrolet LS3 crate engine with a Whipple 2.9-liter Supercharger under the hood. To top it all off, the car has a plaque that declares it is “Steve Rogers’ Special Edition.”
It’s truly a fitting gift for Evans, who has played Steve Rogers since 2012’s Captain America: The First Avenger. However, the actor has confessed that the car is “way out of my league” because he has never owned such a powerful vehicle. It certainly sounds like something that Steve Rogers would say.
Evans and Downey will return as Captain America and Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame, which hits theaters on April 26.
