Quarantine Violator In Philippines Dies Following Cops’ Harsh Punishment

He only went out of the house to buy water...

  • Filipino man Darren Manaog Peñaredondo died after cops punished him for violating lockdown rules.
  • He was asked to do 300 pumping exercises which later led to him collapsing and dying.
  • Eventually, General Trias, Cavite’s police chief was relieved while two other cops were sacked as a result of the incident.

A man in the Philippines recently died after violating strict lockdown rules in the country. According to reports, the police punished 28-year-old Darren Manaog Peñaredondo when they caught him buying water after the 6:00 PM curfew in General Trias city in the province of Cavite.

Apparently, he was asked to do pumping – a squat-like exercise – for 300 times. He came home the next day, then he collapsed and died.

Reichelyn Balce, his live-in partner, said Darren was in great pain and had difficulties walking after the punishment.

“That whole day, he struggled to walk, he was just crawling. But I did not take that seriously because he said it’s just a simple body ache,” she said.

Darren later collapsed and had a seizure, Reichelyn asked for help from the neighbors who attempted to revive Darren. He died soon thereafter.

“He said they were made to do pumping exercises for 100 reps,” Reichelyn added. “If they’re not in sync, they have to start over.”

General Trias Mayor Anthony Ferrer immediately ordered a probe on the incident, slamming the alleged punishment as “torture.”

He said:

“In connection with the unexpected passing of Mr. Darren Manaog Peñaredondo, we immediately ordered the Chief of our police to conduct a fair investigation about the incident of arrest and the seemingly torturing him.

“Let’s hope that we have immediate clarity on the events and give peace of mind and will to the Peñaredondo family.”

Meanwhile, police chief Lt. Col. Marlo Solero was defended that officers have only been instructed to only give lectures, not physical punishments, to curfew violators.

Two other violators, however, testified that they were required to do physical exercises. Solero was later relieved while two other officers were sacked because of the incident.
