A Puppy Who Can’t Walk Becomes Friends With a Pigeon Who Can’t Fly

They always cuddle and have become inseparable.

  • Lundy the Chihuaha was born with mobility problems linked to spinal damage.
  • Hernan the pigeon is one of the rescue group’s oldest residents.
  • The foundation plans to make Lundy move himself by putting him on a wheelchair.

Lundy, a two-month-old Chihuahua puppy. has mobility problems. This has made walking impossible for him. He was taken to The Mia Foundation, a New York-based animal rescue by a North Carolina breeder who noticed his condition. His mobility problem is linked to a spinal damage.

It is indeed an unfortunate situation but luckily, his disability led to a friendship with Herman, a pigeon who can’t fly and who is also one of the rescue group’s oldest residents.

Here’s Lundy and Herman cuddling and showing how inseparable they are.

Sue Rogers, founder of The Mia Foundation, said:

“I set Herman on a dog bed and started caring for Lundy, and I decided to carefully put Lundy in the same dog bed next to him. They started interacting immediately in a very cute way.”

Rogers’ goal is to fix the dog’s mobility issue by putting him in a wheelchair. They are also hoping to find an adoptive family for him.

SO CUTE.

“Lundy weighs only one pound now, so we will have to wait for the chair,” Rogers said.

Rogers’ specialty is helping animals born with defects. Without her intervention, many pets would have been likely euthanized.

Another touching story, just like Lundy and Herman’s, is about the cheetah Nandi and support dog Bowie who are living at Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange, New Jersey.

Bowie helped the shy cheetah cope with the anxiety of her hectic environment. The two has become best friends ever since.

“Bowie has a very important job here, which is to be, kind of, her confidence builder,” said Charlotte Trapman-O’Brien to CBS.

“So cheetahs are naturally skittish by nature, so one of the things that allows us to bring her out and do educational presentations like this is having Bowie by her side.”

Bowie has a gift of sensing distress since he was trained just like a therapy dog. Trainer Samantha Wegman revealed that they need Bowie to be calm because of his job with Nandi. They trained him to be so by exposing him to different environments – letting him ride cars and hear honking cars, for instance.
