Proposal Suggests Giving $1500 Stimulus Check to Americans Who Will Get COVID-19 Vaccination

Not all are willing to be the first in line to try it.

  • But while Americans can get the vaccines for free, not all are willing to be the first in line to try it.
  • The proposal will not only help Americans financially, but it would also help get most of the people in the country vaccinated.
  • The U.S. Centers for Disease Control held a meeting to decide who gets to be vaccinated first.

While millions of Americans are waiting for the second round of stimulus checks that will somehow help them cope with the financial struggles brought by the coronavirus pandemic, the U.S. government is getting ready to distribute the vaccines to the public.

But while Americans can get the vaccines for free, not all are willing to be the first in line to try it. According to a recent Gallup poll, 58 percent of Americans are willing to be vaccinated, which leaves still a big number of people who would risk taking the first round of treatments.

Now a proposal aims to solve this problem by hitting two birds in one stone: Each American who would get the vaccine will get a $1500 stimulus check in exchange. It was suggested by John Delaney, a 2013 Democratic representative from Maryland’s sixth district.

He said that this move will not only help Americans financially, but it would also help get most of the people in the country vaccinated, which would make herd immunity stronger.

“What I think we need to do is create an incentive to get that number up to 75% as quickly as possible. That will save lives, that will get our economy back much sooner, and the way to do that is to tie it to a stimulus plan,” said Delaney, who recently ran for President.

“The vaccines will [end the pandemic], but the existence of vaccines doesn’t do it. What does do it is people actually being vaccinated, and this solution is designed to get more people vaccinated.”

The U.S. Center for Disease Control held a meeting to decide who gets to be vaccinated first. The vaccines will be then rolled out to Americans free or charge once these are approved.

But it’s highly unlikely that such a proposal would pass since the latest proposal for a relief package does not include a stimulus check. However, President-elect Joe Biden said that he will make sure that another round of direct payment will happen after his inauguration.
