Preacher Who Bought a Lambo for His Wife Lives in a $1.8M Home Paid for By the Church

The purchase was said to be an incentive for someone of Gray's 'calibre'.

What’s even more infuriating than the thought of a pastor buying a Lamborghini for his wife? It’s a pastor who lives in a luxury home costing $1.8 which the church paid for.

John Gray, a pastor for the Relentless Church, came under lately fire for giving his wife, Aventer, a $200,000 Lamborghini Urus as anniversary gift.

Gray leads the Greenville, South Carolina-based church and the cash allegedly came from the very church that he serves for.

Now Gray is in even hotter water when news came out that the couple is living in a lavish home worth $1.8 million. The 7,247 square foot property is in Simpsonville, South Carolina and was purchased using church funds.

The house supposedly serves as church parsonage and is situated about 10 miles away from the huge church located in an exclusive subdivision.

Travis Hayes, the chief financial officer of Relentless Church, told the Greenfield News that the purchase of the home ‘is not anything new.’

‘This is a practice that is done with every denomination in the nation. That’s what this is. This is an asset that belongs to the church,’ he said.

It was emphasized that should Pastor Gray decide to leave the church, he will also have to vacate the said home.

The purchase was said to be an incentive for someone of Gray’s ‘calibre’ to move to the area and lead the church. It was the church board’s decision to provide Gray the home.

Gray is also an associate pastor at televangelist Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas.

The pastor was widely criticised for a video of him giving the keys of the Lambo to his wife became viral on social media.

Gray also took to social media to defend himself against the critics.

In an Instagram video, Gray said that ‘Pastor buys his wife, you know, this expensive car. First of all, it wasn’t a pastor that bought the car. It was a husband that bought the car. Get that in your spirit.’

In a Facebook live video, he said that ‘I want to make it clear, not a nickel, not a penny, from this church, Relentless Church, went towards the gift that I made my wife.’

‘That matters, that’s the only thing that matters, ‘cuz I know like you know, there are some pulpit pimps out here who take church money and do the wrong thing.’

Gray poured out his heart on social media defending the purchase of the car.

He explained that the money used to buy the car came from earnings from his show, ‘The Book of John Gray,’ on the Oprah Winfrey Network. He cited book deal revenue and hard-earned savings as the means to buy the vehicle. Gray said that he made a deposit for the car in February and isn’t paid in full yet.

His wife Aventer also defended the purchase via social media.

‘MY HUBBY IS A HARD-WORKER, HE WORKED HIS WHOLE LIFE AND HE SAVED TO BLESS HIS WIFE!’ she said in an Instagram post, which is now deleted.

‘I don’t see anyone screaming about how basketball players drive what they do while you paying $$ to see them play in arenas and on fields. We don’t live for people! We live for God!’
