17 Dumb People Who Were Fired Because of Their Facebook Posts

Yes, your social media posts can get you into a lot of trouble!

People can get fired from their jobs for many different reasons. It may be dishonesty, lack of commitment, damaging company property, drug or alcohol use at work, company policy violation and many others.

Perhaps unknown to some, irresponsible posting on social media can actually lead to losing one’s work. As you can see in the list below, some people have been kicked out of their respective workplaces after writing stupid things online.

#1. This waitress who ranted about her customers.

22-year-old Ashley Johnson used to work as a waitress in North Carolina. She ended up getting fired after posting a rant on Facebook about two customers who kept her late and allegedly didn’t give her enough tip. She also named her workplace in the said post.

#2. Juror holds a poll on Facebook.

One woman working as a juror had a difficulty deciding about a case and so she thought taking things to social media is a good idea.

“I don’t know which way to go, so I’m holding a poll,” she wrote. Unsurprisingly, she was dismissed from the jury.

3. Cheerleader draws on a sleeping guy.

It looks like nothing but a harmless prank but when Caitlin Davis was photographed with a passed-out guy with lots of drawings on his body, the New England Patriots cheerleader was removed from the team.

The problem was the guy had drawings of “phallic symbols, swastikas, and the phrase ‘I’m a Jew’,” according to Business Insider. The photo shows Caitlin also holding a Sharpie.

#4. She had migraine – and fresh Facebook posts.

One woman from the National Suisse in Switzerland complained of having migraines and so she opted to stay and work from home. After her employers saw she was only busy with Facebook, she immediately got fired.

#5. Hospital planking.

Remember that time when planking was a thing? Some staff from the Great Western Hospital in Wiltshire, England ended up with a suspension after doing the “The Lying Down on the Job Game.” They did it on hospital floors, resuscitation tables, and the helipad.

#6. Mascot slams his own team.

Andrew Kurtz used to be a mascot for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He, however, lost the gig after blasting his team’s owners and managers. He wrote on Facebook:

“Coonelly extended the contracts of Russell and Huntington through the 2011 season. That means a 19-straight losing streak. Way to go Pirates.”

#7. The flight attendants who hated their job.

Thirteen crew members from Virgin Airlines publicly expressed how much they hated aspects of their job – from cockroach-infested cabins to airplane engines that had to be replaced often. On top of that, they also said insulting remarks about some passengers.

#8. The teacher from “the most ghetto school in Charlotte.”

A superintendent recommended that a teacher from Charlotte in North Carolina be fired because of what she wrote on Facebook. In her “Interests” section, the said teacher wrote “teaching chitlins in the ghetto of Charlotte”. In her “About Me”, she also wrote “I am teaching in the most ghetto school in Charlotte.”

#9. Unappreciated by Kate Middleton.

Cameron Reilly worked as a Guardsman for the Buckingham Palace but he felt unappreciated for his job – which he lost later on, of course. He posted online:

“Hur and william drove past me on Friday n all a got was a shitty wave while she looked the opposite way from me, stupid stuck up cow am I not good enough for them! posh bitch am totally with u on this 1 who reely gives a f about hur.”

#10. This creepy teacher.

Chadwin Reynolds commented on his students’ photos, writing words such as “This is sexy”. It didn’t take long until he was fired as a Bronx high school teacher.

Bronx high school teacher Chadwin Reynolds got fired for being creepy to his students on Facebook. He posted “This is sexy” under pictures they shared.

#11. Fired for posing with alcoholic drinks.

Apalachee High School teacher Ashley Payne got into a controversy because she posted this photo on Facebook. She was summoned by the principal and was given two choices – to resign or be suspended. She went with the former.

#12. Depressed – while having a fun vacation?

Since 2008, Nathalie Blanchard has been receiving disability insurance for depression from Manulife. Eventually, the company took time to check out her social media account and she was spotted “relaxing at the beach, hanging out at a Chippendale’s-style club, and generally having a lot of fun.”

She lost her benefits right away.

#13. “My boss is a total pervy wanker!”

Well don’t flatter yourself, lady – and yes, you’re fired!

#14. The teacher who hates her students’ “guts”.

She’s been in the profession for 15 years but sixth grade teacher Christine Rubio got into trouble when she posted something on Facebook during their field trip. Rubio wrote:

“After today, I’m thinking the beach is a good trip for my class. I hate their guts.”

#15. The nun who loved Facebook.

Meanwhile in Toledo, Spain, Sister Maria Jesus Galan of the Santo Domingo el Real convent had to leave when it was discovered that she used Facebook all the time. In fact, other nuns in the convent complained her social media usage “made life impossible.”

#16. The expensive paperweight.

Tania Dickinson used to work for the New Zealand Social Development Ministry. In her Facebook profile, she described herself as a “very expensive paperweight.” She also said she’s “highly competent in the art of time wastage, blame-shifting and stationery theft.”

#17. The racist coach.

Last but not the least, we have Georgia little league football coach Frank Samuelson who posted on Facebook:

“I was dining in an Asian buffet today (big surprise), and I heard this morning how Asian students are supposedly so much smarter than American kids. My personal observation is that those fishheads still eat with chopsticks. It took Western ingenuity to invent the fork. I’m just saying. … they ain’t that friggin’ smart.”

Needless to say, his comments sparked great controversy on social media and he eventually had to hire an attorney to defend himself.
