Man With Cerebral Palsy Creates Stunning Art Using A Simple Typewriter

“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” – Thomas Merton, No Man is an Island. Meet Paul Smith, a man who was born with a congenital disorder called cerebral palsy. Paul’s speech and mobility have been significantly affected by his condition, but he did not allow these functional deficits to hinder his ability to express himself through art. When he began living in Rose Haven, a nursing home in Oregon, he unleashed his creativity.

Paul is an exceptional artist, and he uses an unusual medium to create stunning works of art, one that I’m sure you haven’t quite heard of yet – a typewriter.

Paul uses 10 keys in creating magnificent portraits and landscapes, and recreations of famous paintings such as The Mona Lisa and The Last Supper.

How Paul manipulates the paper and the typewriter keys in creating such beautiful artworks, I’m not really sure. But I admire his determination and his positive attitude towards life. Just like how Paul’s family in the nursing home puts it – “the artist is more inspiring than his art.”
