Netflix Announces New Anime Based On Popular Online Game DOTA 2

The new DOTA: Dragon's Blood anime is scheduled for a March 25 release.

  • Netflix is bringing popular online game DOTA to their streaming service through a new anime series.
  • Entitled DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, the series will have 8 episodes which will run 30 minutes each.
  • According to Netflix, the anime follows the adventures of Davion, “a renowned Dragon Knight devoted to wiping the scourge from the face of the world.”

Gamers who also love watching anime, heads up! Netflix has officially announced that a new anime based on the hit videogame DOTA 2 is officially happening.

According to the streaming giant, they are adapting the popular franchise to anime and new series entitled DOTA: Dragon’s Blood will run for 8 episodes with 30 minutes each.

Showrunner and executive producer Ashley Edward Miller (whose credits include X-Men: First Class, Thor and Black Sails) is working with Studio MIR (the company that made The Legend of Korra and Voltron: Legendary Defender) in turning the beloved franchise into an anime.

In the official Netflix press release, we read:

“The upcoming fantasy series tells the story of Davion, a renowned Dragon Knight devoted to wiping the scourge from the face of the world. Following encounters with a powerful, ancient eldwurm as well as the noble Princess Mirana on a secret mission of her own, Davion becomes embroiled in events much larger than he could have ever imagined.”

Miller said about the project:

“Fans will love how we’ve imagined the DOTA 2 universe and woven together an epic, emotional, and adult-oriented story about some of their favorite characters. The cinematic animation, acting and music are simply next level and I’m grateful to Valve for supporting our creative ambitions.”

Meanwhile, the official DOTA Twitter page also tweeted:

“We’re excited to announce a brand-new anime series exploring the Dota universe like never before. As fellow fans of Dota and its passionate global community, we look forward to sharing this new adventure with you.”
