Celebrated in several countries annually, the National Take Your Dog To Work Day is always a much-anticipated day for many dog lovers.

Originally started in the United Kingdom in 1996 and formally introduced in the United States in 1999, participation in this event grows each year as more and more employers are embracing the idea.

Pet Sitters International continues to spearhead the movement in an aim to celebrate the valuable companionship provided by our beloved dogs. Also, PSI hopes to encourage dog adoptions from local shelters, rescue groups, and other concerned organizations.

Here are some of the cutest pictures we’ve gathered from dog owners who participated in this event:

National Take Your Dog to Work Day was celebrated June 26 of this year.

The event happens yearly every Friday following Father’s Day.

Actually, experts agree that interaction with dogs can reduce stress in humans.

In fact, scientific studies confirm that playing with a pet boosts your oxytocin levels – which effectively help decrease stress. At the same time, it decreases the body’s production of cortisol, a stress hormone.

Of course, it naturally follows that reduced stress means greater productivity and since there is probably no other place as stressful as the office, we’d say this type of event is exactly what many fatigued employees need.

Also, a 2001 research declared that pet-owning individuals with high blood pressure were able to manage their blood pressure better during stressful times compared with patients without pets.

We hope a greater number of companies across the globe will implement this in their respective workplaces.

How about you? Did you have the event in your office this year? Or would you participate in the future in case your company begins celebrating this, too? Let us know in the comment section.

Our furry friends definitely deserve a lot of love and we’re grateful events such as this are getting wider acceptance the world over these days.
