Woman Celebrates 1st Birthday of Road Construction Outside Her Home

So savage!

  • New Orleans woman Natalie Harvey went viral on Facebook after celebrating the “first birthday” of the road construction outside her home.
  • She made a cake, brought some balloons, and even wore a party hat as she posed for photos.
  • After a year of work, half the street is still “impassable,” wrote Natalie.

A woman from Lakeview, New Orleans recently attracted a lot of attention online after posting photos of herself – celebrating the first ‘birthday’ of the road work outside her home. Natalie Harvey wore a party hat and then brought a cake and some balloons to mark the occasion.

According to her, Lakeview’s 20th street has been officially under construction for a year now. Her post eventually went viral online, with many netizens praising her savage sense of humor.

It’s been a year!

Natalie wrote on Facebook:

“Happy first birthday to our street construction! It was one year ago this week when they first began to rip up our street. One year later, half the street is impassable – just last week, we had a massive, 6-foot-deep hole!”

In a media interview, Natalie shared that she baked the cake herself.

“I make birthday cakes for my kids, I make birthday cakes for my husband and me, so why not make a birthday cake for our street construction?” she said.

So why is the road work taking too long? Well according to Natalie, the workers have been very inconsistent as they “work every day for a week, then there will be 2-3 weeks with nothing.”

Natalie was likewise quick to point out, “The work has definitely picked up in the last couple of weeks,” but likewise added “you never know when it’s going to stop and when it’s going to start back up again.”

Meanwhile, New Orleans’ deputy chief administrative officer Ramsey Green defended that the delay has been caused by bad weather and the pandemic.

“I myself was out there all morning [16 March] meeting with the Executives of the company and making sure we’ve got tighter deadlines given how long the project has taken,” noted Green.
