According to the Reputation Institute, these are the top 25 most respected countries in the world. Find out if yours made the list.
Each year, the Reputation Institute, (yes apparently there is one), releases a ranking of the most respected countries according to how they are perceived by others. The criteria is simple and straightforward: an advanced economy, environment that is appealing, and of course, effective and efficient government. Based on the abovementioned, we bring you the list of the 25 most respected countries in the world:
25. Taiwan (Score: 56.2)
While it is recognized as a nation only by 22 countries, it still is known for impressive economic and press freedom and human development.
24. Czech Republic (Score: 56.5)
This country’s economic and political systems are considered examples by other nations that are trying to shift and develop further.
23. Poland (Score: 56.8)
Poland steered Europe as the first post-communist government. In 2009, when the rest of Europe was going through financial crisis, it was only Poland that was experiencing growth.
22. United States (Score: 57)
The US is still seen as the land of numerous opportunities which lands it at number 22.
21. Thailand (Score: 57.7)
One of the few Asian countries that made it to the list, Thailand is a famous tourist destination. It scored high on the appealing environment category.
20. Singapore (Score 61.1)
With a very strong economy, an effective and efficient government and a tasteful environment, it’s no wonder that Singapore is number 20 on the list.
19. France (Score: 64.4)
This country has been consistently on the list because of its robust economy and breathtaking scenery.
18. Portugal (Score: 64.4)
Portugal is slowly rising up on the list as indicators in Europe continue to improve.
17. Spain (Score: 67.8)
Spain is the only country that has a lower view of themselves in comparison to other countries.
16. Japan (Score: 69)
This country scored the highest in advanced economy due to its progressive technology, well known brands and very high quality products.
15. Germany (Score: 69)
Tied with Japan, Germany scored fairly well under the economy category despite a few minor setbacks due to the financial constraints brought about by the pressures of the European Union.
14. Italy (Score: 69.4)
Italians have rated their own country lower compared to others. The country fared quite low in governance and economy however it did quite well in environment, lifestyle, beauty and people.
13. United Kingdom (Score: 69.5)
The UK did well in all categories, having the highest rating in education. People consider the United Kingdom as their top location for studies.
12. Austria (Score: 71.2)
Austria is one of the countries on the list that rated high on just about every aspect there is available: good governance, low corruption, beautiful places, developed economy, etc. Truly, Austria is one country that is worthy of the respect.
11. Ireland (Score: 72)
Consistently scoring high on good government and developed economies, Ireland’s systems are again the reasons why it’s on the list of the most respected countries.
10. Belgium (Score: 72.3)
Known for its progressive policies, Belgium happens to be more than just the waffles. It also scored high on an efficient and responsible government, ethics and safety.
9. Netherlands (Score: 73.7)
Netherlands is the first country so far that scored high on all three criterions of the Reputation Institute.
8. Denmark (Score: 74.5)
This country is seen as one of the best Nordic countries to live, study and work.
7. New Zealand (Score: 75)
Due to its stable social infrastructure, robust economy and fabulous scenery, New Zealand is pegged as one of the best countries to live in.
6. Finland (Score: 75.1)
This country also fared very well on all three categories. If only it weren’t that cold.
5. Australia (Score: 76.3)
Australia has the highest internal reputation in comparison to the rest of the countries in the list. It came ahead of Canada, Russia, and India.
4. Switzerland (Score: 76.4)
This country has consistently been in the top 4 of the list every single year. It actually comes as no surprise since it scores high on all dimensions.
3. Sweden (Score: 76.6)
Sweden’s institutions are highly regarded as well as their government and economical systems.
2. Norway (Score: 77.1)
Another beautiful country, Norway ranked very high on all the categories.
1. Canada (Score: 78.1)
Because of its efficient government, appealing natural beauty and advanced economy, Canada is perceived to have the highest quality of life.
