A A A

If you are a big fan of watching movies at home, we’re sure you know how valuable the ‘pause’ button is. For example, the tool allows you to stop the film for a while if you are feeling overwhelmed. That way, you can take a breather and digest things first before proceeding. Other than that, the button can be useful too if you need to pee or get some food. Well that’s the huge advantage of watching on your couch as opposed to sitting in a theater, right?

In other instances though, hitting the pause button is also perfect for catching little details that most casual viewers might miss in first viewing. Case in point, this list compiled by Providr gives us the 28 most paused moments in movie history – like ever!

Read on and see for yourself.

#1. Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982)

Young Phoebe Cates plays Linda Barrett in this movie and in one scene, she went for an afternoon swim with Stacy Hamilton, played by actress Jennifer Jason Lee. Brad, Stacy’s brother, is watching them and when Cates later left the pool, she just removed her red swimwear right there and then.

#2. Wild Things (1998)

This movie’s memorable moment, much like Cates’ Fast Times scene, is also in set in a pool – but this one involves two lovely girls, Neve Campbell and Denise Richards, sharing a kiss.

#3. Basic Instinct (1992)

Of course, no list of most paused movie moments will ever be complete without Basic Instinct. That epic leg crossing scene by Sharon Stone is definitely one of the most iconic in the history of films.

#4. Scanners (1981)

In this movie, Michael Ironside made a man’s head explode using his powers. Things happen too quickly and so seeing it once will never be enough.

#5. Cabin in the Woods (2012)

In one scene, a white board can be seen in the background containing lists of monsters and bad guys. Fans, of course, wanted to take a closer look.

#6. Wizard of Oz (1939)

This classic has a controversial scene where one of the munchkins appeared to have hung himself but the makers have said it’s nothing but a bird.

#7. Teen Wolf (1985)

Yes, this is supposed to be a family movie but in one of the frames, a background actor can be spotted with his zipper evidently down. Needless to say, that short scene has cracked up many viewers.

#8. The Little Mermaid (1989)

Believe it or not, this animated Disney classic has a not-so-kid-friendly scene. That of a priest who, let’s just say, got a bit “excited” for Ariel and Prince Eric’s wedding.

#9. Fight Club (1999)

Brad Pitt makes a brief appearance in this film. ‘Nuff said!

#10. Total Recall (1990)

Who could forget about that lady with three tits in this Arnold Schwarzenegger action flick? Answer: No one.

#11. Psycho (1960)

Norman Bates gets a skull superimposed over his face in one key moment. Blink and you will absolutely miss it.

#12. Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

Long before she became Harley Quinn of the Suicide Squad, Margot Robbie was Naomi Lapaglia. One scene stands out in the movie where she’s just ridiculously sexy.

#13. The Lion King (1994)

Eagle-eyed movie fans caught the word “SEX” in this Disney movie as it forms from the dust. The makers, however, said it’s actually “SFX” which is a nod to the studio’s special effects department. If you ask us, we’ll say it really looks more like an E than an F.

#14. Boogie Nights (1997)

Mark Wahlberg shows off his stuff in this adult movie. Sure, it’s prosthetic but fans still paused to get a better look.

#15. Tron (1982)

A sci-fi flick from the 80’s will never be complete without the appearance of a popular arcade star – Pac-Man, that is, and we see the character in one Jeff Bridges scene.

#16. Star Wars: A New Hope (1977)

One Stormtrooper accidentally banged his head in a door and the result has been totally hilarious. We don’t blame him though, it’s probably hard to see in that helmet.

#17. Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (1999)

It’s no secret that Star Wars creator George Lucas is a close friend of fellow filmmaker Steven Spielberg. So in Phanton Menace, Lucas decided to insert a little easter egg where E.T. and his family can be seen.

#18. Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

This one’s still a theory but many fans are saying that in that silent scene involving Rey and an older Luke Skywalker, a gravestone can be seen in the background.

#19. Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988)

In a dance scene, viewers were eagerly expecting Jessica Rabbit, who is undeniably one of the sexiest cartoon characters around, to go commando.

#20. Three Men and a Baby (1987)

Some thought they spotted a boy standing behind the characters but as it turns out, it was nothing but a Ted Danson cardboard cutout.

#21. Jurassic World (2015)

During the park attack of Pterodactyls, one guy can be seen saving two margaritas – who is actually Jimmy Buffett.

#22. Iron Man (2008)

A prototype of Captain America’s shield can be seen in the background as Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) checks with her boss and love interest Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr). This simple easter egg later proved to be one of the jumping points for the Marvel cinematic universe.

#23. Man of Steel (2013)

On the DC side of things, Superman (Henry Cavill) can be seen grabbing a huge satellite with a Wayne Enterprises logo – a clear reference to Batman, otherwise known as Bruce Wayne.

#24. The Rescuers (1977)

It seems animators like inserting naughty things in wholesome cartoons. This old one, for example, features a nude woman in the background.

#25. Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

This Indiana Jones movie shows us that a fly crawling into your mouth is not an excuse to break character.

#26. Signs (2002)

To catch the first sighting of the aliens in this sci-fi horror flick, you need two things – the pause and rewind buttons. It’s so quick, you’ll likely miss it if you weren’t focused enough.

#27. Burn After Reading (2008)

Brad Pitt gets shot in the closet in this movie and it all happens pretty fast. Blink and you won’t see it.

#28. She’s The Man (2006)

Of course, who could forget that jaw-dropping moment when pretty Amanda Brynes, who was 19 years old when this movie was shot, lifted her shirt to prove to the boys that she in fact a girl. She did it during soccer practice!

So there you have it, film buffs – the 28 most paused moments in the history of movies. Think we missed something? Tell us about it in the comment section!
