Miners In Uruguay Unearthed A Naturally Heart-Shaped Amethyst Geode

It was definitely worth the two or three hours spent to crack the rock open.

  • The basalt was very hard and one of the guys joked that “now we have to find something amazing due to the hard work we have to do here.”
  • After two or three hours, they moved a basalt rock and with the excavator machine, opened a heart-shaped amethyst geode.
  • Uruguay Minerals decided to leave the geode to its natural form.

By itself, amethyst is not exactly a prized find compared to say, diamonds, rubies, or emeralds. But the amethyst geode that these miners discovered in Uruguay can be considered a once-in-a-lifetime find because of its spectacular heart shape.

The miners were working at the new mine Uruguay Minerals in Santa Rosa in the Catalan area in Artigas, which is near the border with Brazil. One of the miners, Marcos Lorenzelli, said that it was a normal day of work for them and they were just allowed in the area to search more geodes.

He said the basalt was very hard and one of the guys joked that “now we have to find something amazing due to the hard work we have to do here.” Because the basalt was tougher to work on, it required more effort to crack open. They kept on it and what they found made the toil all worth it.

“After two or three hours, they moved a basalt rock and with the excavator machine, opened a heart-shaped amethyst geode—what a treasure!” said Lorenzelli.

They were definitely lucky to find an awesome creation from Mother Nature. Geodes come in different sizes and shapes, but it was undeniable that this amethyst was definitely unique.

Uruguay Minerals immediately shared this amazing find on its website and social media. Reactions were what was expected – there were those who said that it must be a sign of love from the planet and that we have to love it right back, with climate change and other problems happening right now.

The company has made lots of stuff with the geodes that they find, including heart-shaped keepsakes.

But this time, they found something a naturally shaped one that they don’t have to modify. And they made the right decision to leave it untouched.
