Metal Detector Guys Dig Up Rare WW2 Lock Box and Discover its Incredible Contents

You won't believe the rich relics found inside...

Russian personnel on a metal detector sweep for un-exploded mines in old World War II battlefields chanced upon an awesome discovery of an intact lock box belonging to an unknown German soldier.

Doing a routine sweep over a dangerous minefield dating back from some 70 years ago, Russian minesweepers detected a larger than usual find in a Nevsky Pyatachok field, the site of one of the bloodiest campaigns during the German Siege of Leningrad from 1941 to 1943.

After some digging, they came up with a whole lock box with the most surprisingly intact contents discovered since…

Filled to the brim with personal effects belonging to some Nazi soldier, the locker was packed haphazardly, but contained a wealth of history in the relics contained therein…

…including German Reichsmarks, the currency used in Nazi Germany.

…and two perfectly preserved boxes of 70-plus-year-old cigars.

Apparently the person who owned the lock box enjoyed indulging in some fine Jamaican rum in the trenches…

The luxurious content of his lock box attest to the fact that the owner was an officer in the Third Reich, as evidenced by his pin badge with accompanying swastika…

…as well as the markings on his uniform.

Apparently, during the second world war, which lasted from 1939 to 1945, and cost the lives of 1.5 million Russian soldiers and civilians in the 872-day German Siege of Leningrad alone, some officers brought along the comforts of home with them.

With the uncovering of this nearly intact lock box, WW II historians can continue to piece together the lives of the combatants from both the Allied and Axis side of the fence.

On the other hand, speculations are runing rife this really isn’t a genuine find but a hoax meant to stir World War II memorabilia collectors into a frenzy.
