Alexander and Jeanette Tockzko are childhood sweethearts. According to their family, the couple started “dating” when they were both eight years old. In 1940, the two were married and they eventually had five children. The Toczkos lived in San Diego, California.

Recently, a photo of them made rounds on the internet and the old dying couple can be seen hugging each other. The reports say that Alexander and Jeanette died just a few hours apart.

A few weeks ago, Alexander broke his hip from a fall and became bed-ridden as a result. The family got a special bed for him and placed it near Jeanette’s bed. Jeanette’s health eventually began to decline as well and the couple said their desire is to die peacefully together in each other’s arms – quite similar to the ending of The Notebook, a movie based on a Nicholas Sparks novel.

This photo went viral recently, showing the old couple hugging each other dying just a few hours apart.

Alexander and Jeanette have lived their life as a married couple for 75 years and it seems their dying wish has finally been fulfilled.

Aimee Toczko-Cushman said that his father passed away first. She proceeded to break the news to her mother and what she did touched her. “She hugged him and she said, ‘See this is what you wanted. You died in my arms and I love you. I love you, wait for me, I’ll be there soon.’”

Alexander, a war veteran, always kept a picture of his dearly beloved Jeanette in his wallet.

This is just so heart-breaking. In a time when divorces have become so commonplace, it’s inspiring how this couple stayed with each other through the years despite all the trials of life. Until their very last breath, they proved to the world that love is indeed a real thing.
