Aussie Man Spotted Stealing Versace Necklace Using His Fishing Rod

Authorities said the burglar “fished for about three hours before landing his catch."

Police officials in Melbourne, Australia said he used the fishing rod to steal a Versace necklace from a mannequin.
The man made a hole in the glass front-window and slid his fishing rod to catch the precious necklace.

An unidentified white man in his late 40’s, wearing a blue Londale windbreaker jacket and grey pants was seen in a CCTV camera footage carrying two fishing rods at 2 a.m. Authorities believe that he used his fishing rod to catch a precious necklace worn by a mannequin in a high-end jewelry shop.

Footages showed the man, standing about five foot nine tall, walking up to the jewelry store, carrying two fishing rods and cautiously looking around an empty street.

Australian police authorities suspected that the man cut a hole through the store’s glass window-front where the mannequin was displayed.

“It appeared that the burglar was fishing for about three hours before landing his catch” said the police officials in Melbourne in a statement.

Although store owner Steven Adigrati did not disclose how much and which particular Versace jewelry item he took, he confirmed that it was an expensive one.

Adigrati was also surprised with how quick he was able to steal the necklace using his fishing rod.

“I couldn’t believe it. Three hour and a half hours, with two rods, trying to get this necklace, was amazing,” the owner said.

The man however, left an evidence: his fishing hook.

Authorities have released the CCTV footage in their Twitter account and are currently asking the public to get in touch with them if they have seen the thief or if they know any information about him.

Versace necklaces prices vary from about $550 to as much as $5,000.

Twitter netizens immediately shared their different reactions about this “fisherman”.

For example, user Steve Henry thought said the man wasn’t too clever for not wearing a hat.

Another one joked he knew the thief’s name.
