Man Gets Jailed For Lockdown Violation After Riding Jet Ski To Visit His Girlfriend

It was a 25-mile sea journey that took 4 1/2 hours!

  • Dale McLaughlan of Scotland made headlines after using a jet ski to see his girlfriend.
  • The trip took more than 4 hours.
  • Unfortunately, the act was a violation of existing border restrictions and so he ended up being in jail for 4 weeks.

A man from North Ayrshire, Scotland has been sentenced to a 4-week jailtime after breaching Covid-19 lockdown protocols. According to reports, 28-year-old Dale McLaughlan took a jet ski for a 4 1/2 hour trip from Whithorn, Dumfriesshire to the Isle of Man.

His purpose? He badly wanted to see his girlfriend.

Dal McLaughlan, 28, rode a jet ski and took a 25-mile journey to visit his girlfriend Jessica Radcliffe.

McLaughlan initially thought the trip would only take around 40 minutes.

“He safely arrived on Ramsey despite never driving a water scooter before… then walked 15 miles to the island’s capital town of Douglas where his girlfriend Jessica Radcliffe lives,” reported the news website.

Meanwhile, Mclaughlan’s mother couldn’t help but react after learning about her son’s crazy stunt. She said:

“He was supposed to be going over for work but as far as I know they put it off till January 11.

“I didn’t even know about the jet ski.

“I just don’t know why he did it – he could have killed himself.

“He’ll be missing his kids over Christmas.”

Based on Isle of Man’s current restrictions, non-residents need a special permit to enter the island. McLaughlan previously had a 4-week pass when he worked there as a roofer in September. He met Jessica there during a night out.

However, his pass has since expired and his application to renew has been denied. So he decided to do something about it.

McLaughlan’s lawyer defended he’s suffering from depression and is having a hard time not seeing Radcliffe.

During the sentencing, Deputy High Bailiff Christopher Arrowsmith said that McLaughlan’s act was a “deliberate and intentional attempt to circumnavigate” the existing border restriction laws, which potentially puts the community at risk.
