Man Loses Wallet on Plane, Gets it Back Home with a Little Extra Gift

Should I lose my wallet and see what happens?

Honesty and kindness is now a rare gift but just like chivalry, it still doesn’t seem quite dead yet! Here’s one more example, this time set in a plane and disguised as a travelling mishap. This one comes with a pleasantly surprising twist that will surely make your day!

The story shared by Jeannie Shamatt on Facebook started with a plane trip from Omaha to Denver. The trip was taken with her 20-year-old son Hunter, who lost his wallet in-flight. The loss, which was not discovered until much later, turned out to be an inspiring story of hope and kindness.

The owner of the lost billfold, Hunter Shamatt, was on his way to his sister’s wedding in Las Vegas. That’s when he lost his wallet, along with his ID, $60 in cash, a debit card, and a signed paycheck. Jeannie, his mother, shared that they tried to find it by calling Frontier Airlines but failed.

“After fearing the worst that everything was gone,” Jeannie shared, “Hunter received a package in the mail with his wallet and a letter signed with only initials. On the envelope a return address out of Omaha from Applied Underwriters.”

The lost wallet has found it’s way home. Not only that, it came with this letter and a little extra cash.

In their desire to find the good Samaritan and express their gratitude, the family took to the internet. Jeannie posted, “We would love to thank the individual personally if we could find him or her. Please help share this post so we can find this amazing person.” The post reached many people and made news in Omaha, which led them to the generous stranger.

In an update, Jeannie posted: “I personally want to thank Todd Brown and his wife for restoring faith that there are amazing people out there, the world is not as grim as it’s being made out to be.”

The good Samaritan, Todd Brown, also shared he thought about giving the wallet to the flight crew, but wanted to make sure Hunter gets it back so he mailed them instead.

He also clarified his intention for giving extra cash as he returned the lost wallet.

“I saw he was just a kid, 20 years old, he had a paycheck in there. I figured, ‘Well, he’s doing his best to make ends meet.’ But I was 20 once, and that’s a lot of money for a kid. I imagined what it would be like to get your wallet back, so I added a little bit so he could celebrate.”
