Remote Tasmanian Island Will Give House and Job to Brave Couple Willing to Move There

Could you and your beloved survive six months together on this remote island without TV or internet?

Living on a remote island may not be everyone’s cup of tea. But if you’re looking for a decent excuse to run away from reality and set forth on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, then this opportunity might be perfect for you. Also, the chance to live on a beautiful remote island together with your significant other can be an exciting idea.

The Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service is currently looking for brave couples and even BFFs who are willing to become part-time caretakers on Maatsuyker Island, a beautiful 460-acre island located six miles off the southwest coast of Tasmania.

Maatsuyker Island is located southwest off the coast of Tasmania.

The remote island boasts incredible wildlife and amazing views of the ocean.

Sounds perfect for an adventure, right? Be warned, however, that this is not for the faint of heart. But if you’re okay living on a “sometimes wet and often windswept island” with minimal contact from anyone else, this might be the job for you.

Seriously, this could all be yours.

According to the application, for “safety reasons” couples are discouraged to apply unless they’ve proven to work together in a remote setting.

“We are looking for self-sufficient people that are healthy, have a proven ability to live and work in remote locations, and are able to carry out caretaking services including maintenance of grounds, buildings and plant and equipment” the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service said.

If you and your partner were luckily selected, both of you will literally live alone on the remote island for two six months for the next two years. Both of you will be completely isolated from the rest of the world. The only way to leave the island during your six-month-stay would be a helicopter evacuation in case of an emergency.

And oh, did I mention there’s no internet or TV?

The lighthouse station on the island is automated and managed by a computer but that doesn’t mean you’ll just be taking morning naps or just sitting around doing nothing. As the caretakers, your responsibility involves maintenance works of “grounds, buildings and plant equipment.”

Additionally, both of you are also required to carry out daily weather observations for the Bureau of Meteorology for which you and your partner will receive training and payment.

There will be only one resupply visit every three months, but that’s not a problem since there’s a vegetable garden where you can grow your own food. Plus, you get to enjoy the 19th century four-bedroom house with one bathroom all by yourselves.

Could you and your beloved survive six months here without TV or internet?

Do you think you and your partner are strong enough to survive six months on this remote island? Bickering and fighting is inevitable in this kind of situation but do you think your relationship is tough enough to leave the island unscathed after six months?
