Louis Vuitton To Sell Face Shield Worth $961

Would you buy one?

  • Louis Vuitton is selling a face shield complete with gold studs for $961 each.
  • The said personal protective equipment is made of photochromatic hard plastic that turns dark upon exposure to UV rays.

Face masks have become a necessity for many amid the global COVID-19 pandemic. Many places and establishments now require the use of such masks and some are even encouraging the use of face shields.

Luxury brand Louis Vuitton has jumped on the “new normal” fashion trend and has announced its plans to sell a full plastic face shield bearing their iconic monogrammed LV pattern. As anyone can expect, the item comes with an expensive price tag.

The Louis Vuitton full face shield is scheduled to hit the market this October 30 for $961 each.

According to a press release, the product is being touted as “an eye-catching headpiece” that is “both stylish and protective.”

Meanwhile, a USAToday article tells us that the visor is “photochromatic and can transition from clear to dark when it comes into contact with direct sunlight”.”

The elastic head strap bears the LV pattern. Plus it has golden stud details.

And yes, the plastic shield can also be flipped up to be used like a visor.

But could it really protect users against the coronavirus?

It is, of course, worth-noting that experts aren’t exactly convinced about the effectiveness of face shields – especially when it is used as an alternative to wearing a face mask.

Case in point, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention explained:

“A face shield is primarily used for eye protection for the person wearing it. At this time, it is not known what level of protection a face shield provides to people nearby from the spray of respiratory droplets from the wearer.

“There is currently not enough evidence to support the effectiveness of face shields for source control.”

CDC likewise emphasized that those who wear face shields “should wash their hands before and after removing the face shield and avoid touching their eyes, nose and mouth when removing it.”
