He Overheard Teens Making Fun of an Old Man’s House, So He Rallied 100 People to Help Out

Josh Cyganik heard two young boys mocking an old man's house. He decided to do something about it.

Josh Cyganik, a railroad track inspector from Union Pacific, overheard two teenage boys making rude comments on the house of Leonard Bullock.

The two teens made fun of the the 75-year-old man’s house saying that the crappy house should just be burned down. Cyganik knew that Bullock heard what they said and the thoughtless remarks bothered him.

Determined to help the old man,  Cyganik posted a message on Facebook asking for volunteers to help him fix the house. His post has quickly gone viral amassing more than 6,000 shares.

On July 18, more than 95 volunteers coming from various places such as Washington, Texas, and California arrived to assist in the project. His fellow railroaders likewise showed up to help. Some strangers donated materials and dropped off food and drinks just to give their share. Even coffee chain Starbucks donated six gallons of iced tea and water for the workers.

In an interview with UPRR<, Cyganik said:

“Yeah, it was a random act of kindness, but to me it’s more about respect. I was raised to respect the people who came before you, to help others out who don’t have much. Leonard can now sit on his front porch for the rest of his years while feeling good about his home.”
