Nevis Catapult, New Zealand’s Latest Thrill Ride Turns You Into A Human Slingshot

Would you try this?

New Zealand is the world’s capital of adventure tourism, and it’s giving people another reason to check the place out. Since skydiving appears to be a thing of the past now, New Zealand’s South Island near Queenstown offers a new adventure for thrill-seekers — The Nevis Catapult.

The Nevis Valley on New Zealand’s South Island near Queenstown is home of the world’s first commercial bungee jump, but it is taking things up a notch by introducing a human slingshot. However, this isn’t just a human slingshot that you attempt in your backyard; The Nevis Catapult can catapult people nearly 500 feet in mere seconds.

While some people feel that bungee jumping and skydiving are already too much of an adrenaline rush, wait until you see what The Nevis Catapult is all about.

Unlike skydiving, where divers jump from an airplane or other high places, The Nevis Catapult hurls riders 492 feet up and out across the Nevis Valley. The start position is similar to zip lining.

The catapult experience lasts three or four minutes, depending on velocity.

For those who are brave enough to try this human slingshot, they will reach speeds of nearly 62 miles an hour in just 1.5 seconds in the air.

However, just like any other risky adventures, this is not meant for all ages. You must be at least 13 years old and weigh at least 60 pounds or 27 kg to participate.

The Nevis swing pod in New Zealand may just be the most extreme ride in the world.

It costs $255 NZ or approx. $172 USD. Travelers who want to partake in the catapult experience will need to fill out a questionnaire and share any medical conditions in advance.
