How To Get Over Someone Who Broke Your Heart

Just because your heart has been broken, it doesn't mean that it's the end of the world for you.

There is no denying that ending a relationship can be a spirit-crushing experience, and we all have our individual ways to cope with it. While some of us wallow in sorrow and hope to reverse the events, others choose to move on and forward with their lives.

While possible, the latter is definitely not an easy task, especially if you truly loved (and still love!) the person who broke your heart. So, how do you move on from a major heartbreak? Here are some tips that might help:

1. Don’t set a time limit.

While some people set a time frame for their moving on process, the truth is that this helps a little, if not at all. You should understand that moving on is not a race or a sort of examination that must be accomplished when “time is up.” Move on naturally without thinking about when you can fully recover from the pain as, the more you think about how long it has been, the more difficult it can be for you to forget.

2. Feel the emotions, no matter how bad they may be.

Some people make a mistake of denying the pain when moving on. They try to pretend as if everything’s perfectly okay. However, the truth of the matter is you can never run away from the pain or any other negative emotions that come after a breakup. In fact, it is common to experience returning pain, regret, guilt, and/or anger even after you thought you’ve already made significant progress in the process. So how much more if the wounds are still fresh, right?

3. Cut the ties.

Without question, one deterrent to moving-on process is any reminder of your ex. With social media an integral part of the present generation, this can even become more difficult as you see your ex’s post on Facebook, Instagram, or other platforms. How can you move on if you are constantly bombarded with his or her face on social media? Or worse, how would you feel if you see that you have already been replaced?

4. Don’t be hard on yourself.

You may feel that you are to blame for the failed romance, but you have to remember that it takes two to tango. You may have your share of shortcomings but perhaps, things had been fated to happen how they did. Even if you are indeed to blame, there is no point in crying over spilled milk. Don’t be too harsh on yourself. Just learn from your mistakes and apply the lessons in your next relationship.

5. Understand that there are many other fishes on the sea – and pray to find the next deserving one.

Just because your heart has been broken, it doesn’t mean that it’s the end of the world for you. Work on healing yourself from the emotional and mental pain that the breakup brought, and believe that things will be okay someday soon. One day, you will find romance once again as your ex is not the only person capable of loving you. If you’re into religion, pray not just for your healing but for discernment in finding your next love adventure!
