Horned “QAnon Shaman” Hasn’t Eaten Since Arrest Because Prison Food Isn’t Organic

The request was approved "on religious grounds."

  • His mother told reporters that he “hasn’t eaten since Friday and he gets very sick if he doesn’t eat organic food.”
  • Judge Deborah Fine approved the special food provision on “religious grounds” and told the facility to accommodate it.
  • The U.S. Marshal said that he will be given “a shaman’s strict organic diet”.

Jacob Anthony Chansley, a.k.a Jake Angeli, better known as the “QAnon Shaman” is one of the most prominent faces at the storming of the U.S. Capitol on January 6. Now he’s in federal custody after turning himself in to the FBI, but has refused to eat for a few days because the food in detention was not organic.

His mother, Martha Chansley, told reporters that her son “hasn’t eaten since Friday and he gets very sick if he doesn’t eat organic food – literally, will get physically sick.”

During Jake’s first court appearance, Judge Deborah Fine ordered the facility to accommodate Jake’s dietary wishes as she finds his fasting “deeply concerning.” She approved the special food on “religious grounds”.

U.S. Marshal for the District of Arizona David Gonzales confirmed that they will comply with the judge’s orders and provide Jake’s organic food needs.

He said that he will be given “a shaman’s strict organic diet”. The court, in a later statement, clarified that the order was pursuant to “any legitimate dietary needs Mr. Chansley may have.”

Jake, a 33-year-old native of Phoenix, Arizona, shot to ultimate notoriety when he was photographed inside the Capitol during the riots wearing a horned headwear and furry costume. His face was painted red, white, and blue. He was decked in tattoos and he carries an American flag and a megaphone.

He has been charged with “knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, and with violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.”

The reactions to his demand for organic food range from funny to disbelief.

He believes he did anything wrong when he participated in storming the Capitol.

“I’m not really all that worried about it because, in all honesty…I didn’t break any laws. I walked through open doors,” he said in an interview last week.

“I obey the orders of the president of the United States,” he said.

He started to believe in QAnon after reading conspiracy theories on the internet. He has been frequently spotted at pro-Trump rallies in Phoenix and would often appear in costumes similar to what he wore at the Capitol.

His mother describes him as a “patriot” and the “gentlest person I know.”
