Royal Navy Tests ‘Iron Man’ Jet Suit To Fly Assault Teams And Storm A Ship

Move over, Iron Man!

  • Gravity Industries has uploaded a new video where they worked with the Royal Navy to demonstrate the capabilities of the Gravity Jet Suit.
  • The footage shows a person wearing the tech, flying from a fast boat to a ship.
  • The military has since described the Jet Suit as “undoubtedly impressive.”

This may look like something straight from a sci-fi movie but no, jet packs now exists in real life and the British Royal Navy has already tested the futuristic tech.

Uploaded on YouTube by Gravity Industries just last May 2, the 3-minute video has garnered over 2.2 million views so far as numerous netizens watched in awe as a person flew from an inflatable boat to the Royal Navy Batch 2 River-class ship HMS Tamar and then back again – using the Gravity Jet Suit.

The jet suit was used for a ‘visit, board, search, and seizure’ (VBSS) operation.

As can be seen on the footage below, the exercise has been carried out smoothly with the help of modern technology. So instead of using a helicopter, a jetpack-wearing person can simply fly from a fast boat, transfer to the ship and then drop a ladder for others to climb on.

According to the Royal Navy, the Jet Suit wearer was a member of the Gravity Industries team who demonstrated how the tech works.

Meanwhile, the company explained that they will “provide extremely rapid access to any part of the target vessel, instantly freeing up hands to bear a weapon, and even retaining the capability to relocate on target or self-exfiltrate.”

Gravity Industries likewise pointed out:

“This is increasingly seen as a revolution in tactical capability for many special forces and has much broader application beyond Maritime boarding.”

As of this writing, Royal Navy has praised the Jet Suit as “undoubtedly impressive,” although they did not mention whether they will purchase the tech or not.
