‘Fortnite’ Contributed To Dozens Of Divorces This Year

Is "Fortnite" becoming a relationship wrecker?

The hugely popular video game titled Fortnite has millions of players worldwide. It can be played on Xbox, PlayStation and now on mobile phones, and the ultra-addictive game pits players against each other in a survival of the fittest-type contest.

While some considered playing online games just a mere hobby, some are taking it too far that led to a full-blown addiction. In fact, a recent press release posted by a UK-based divorce website is blaming Fortnite and other addictive video games for the end of marriages.

Fortnite is highly popular with children and teenagers because it can be played on mobile phones, but it appears the very addictive game is not only affecting youngsters.

Its most popular format is the BattleRoyale which sees 100 players fight each other on an island until one is left standing.

Fornite is not only very addicting but could cause some serious relationship troubles. According to Divorce-online.co.uk, they noticed that there is a huge increase in cases where online gaming led couples to split up.

A spokesperson for the company said:

“Addiction to drugs, alcohol, and gambling have often been cited as reasons for relationship breakdowns, but the dawn of the digital revolution has introduced new addictions.”

The spokesperson noted that “online pornography, online gaming, and social media” are included as a reason for relationship problems.

Fortnite isn’t the only contributing factor to online gaming addiction. However, the press release specifically cites Fortnite as a search keyword when they filtered the divorce petitions.

Gaming addiction can be severe and is now officially recognized as a mental disorder problem by the World Health Organization, which put “gaming disorder” on its International Classification of Diseases (ICD).

It is worth noting that there is nothing wrong with playing online games, just as long as you know how to manage your time. If you’re spending too much playing these games like Fortnite, you need to stop as soon as you can.
