Emirates To Pay Funeral Costs Of Passengers Who Get Infected With COVID-19

"We are putting our customers first, and we believe they will welcome this initiative."

  • Emirates hhas announced they will be shouldering medical and funeral costs of flyers who get infected or die of coronavirus.
  • Passengers only need to purchase a ticket to avail of the coverage.
  • The company said they will even pay for hotel quarantine and other related expenses.

In an attempt to increase the number of passengers during the pandemic, Emirates Airlines has promised flyers that they will pay for medical expenses – even funeral costs – if a passenger contracts and dies of coronavirus.

It’s a surprising announcement that has since gained mixed reactions from netizens but yes, the Dubai-based company has assured they will be offering a total amount of up to $1,765 for the funeral costs. This is on top of the $176,000 that will be given for medical expenses if a passenger gets infected with the dreaded disease during their travel.

This means Emirates will shoulder up to about $118  each day for 2 weeks for a passenger’s quarantine-related expenses, such as a hotel room.

According to Emirates, the offer will be available until October 31 and the coverage will be valid for a period of 31 days, beginning “the moment you take your first flight, and it covers you even if you travel onwards to another city”. Passengers will not need to pay any additional fees to avail of the offer.

However, COVID-19 testing will not be included in the coverage.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, CEO of Emirates Group, said:

“We are now taking it to the next level, by being the first in the industry to offer our customers free global cover for COVID-19 medical expenses and quarantine costs should they incur these costs during their travel.

“It is an investment on our part, but we are putting our customers first, and we believe they will welcome this initiative.”

According to reports, Emirates is one of the many airline companies that have been badly hit by the pandemic. This followed as less travelers have booked domestic and international flights over the past few months because of strict restrictions imposed in many countries.
