They Were About To Lose Their 11-Year-Old Pit Bull; So They Gave It A Vacation Of A Lifetime

What a touching story.

If there are creatures who give humans unconditional love, it would have to be dogs. Case in point: Japan’s well-loved dog Hachiko. The Akita dog proved to everyone that dogs are capable of real and unconditional love when the loyal dog waited for its master for 9 years.

As dog owners, do we ever give our furry pets the unconditional love they deserve? How much time and effort are you willing to give your dog?

Remember the story of a girl who took her beloved dog on an epic adventure? This is a similar story. When photographer Zhenia Bulawka and her boyfriend Christian learned that their 11-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier’s life is about to end pretty soon, they thought of giving it a special gift.

Battling mast cell cancer for two years, Mr. Dukes along with his friends Violet and Ruby was granted a vacation of a lifetime. Although Dukes passed away a month after their trip, Bulawka said  she was grateful that it happened.

“Dukes was my best friend. He was also my muse, as his passion for life served as a constant source of inspiration to me. I could never tire of photographing him. Since his passing, I’ve been told numerous times “how lucky Dukes was to have me.” But in fact, it was me who was so lucky to have him. He was the smartest, funniest, most loyal, incredibly strong, yet equally sensitive dog—all wrapped into one perfect pittie package. He changed my life and I will miss him forever.”

Here are some of the photos of the memorable trip they shared with Reshareworthy:

Ruby was the first one to jump into the ocean. But she soon headed back to the shore after hearing the crashing of the wave.

“If you look closely, you can probably make out which one is Ruby, and which is Dukes. Too bad we couldn’t get a third head on there somewhere. Poor Violet!”
