How it Feels to be a Father, Summed Up in a 60-Second Heartwarming Video

Shout out to all the awesome dads out there!

Let’s face it – dads usually aren’t portrayed positively in modern media. In this day and age of Homer Simpsons, it has become a stereotype for most dads to be seen as stupid, lazy, and incompetent. He is, all too often, the butt of jokes.

This, of course, isn’t always the case.

If you know where to look, you’ll find numerous examples of dads out there who do more than provide food on the table or fix the sink when it breaks down. There are still a lot of fathers who genuinely care for their children, spend quality time with them, and build strong relationships that lasts a lifetime.

Experts believe that negative media portrayals of dads bring undesirable consequences to our society.

Matt Campbell, administrator of MensActivism.org, has expressed his concerns about the negative portrayal of dads in the media – and the undesirable consequences that usually come with it.

Campbell said:

“Negative general portrayals of fathers/husbands/men in TV commercials and sit-coms contributes to a decrease in men wanting to assume those roles in society, and creates the impression among others that men need not assume such roles anyways, that such simply aren’t important.”

“It’s time to acknowledge the caring moments of fatherhood that often go overlooked.”

Fortunately, there are those who believe that fatherhood should be celebrated. Such as this short video produced by Dove.

The video description tells us:

“Three quarters of dads say they are responsible for their child’s emotional well-being, while only 20% of dads see this role reflected in media. It’s time to acknowledge the caring moments of fatherhood that often go overlooked.”

“Dads around the world need more love from the media.”

Uploaded by Dove on their YouTube channel for their Father’s Day campaign way back in 2012, the video has since gained millions of views and a lot of positive reaction.

For example, YouTube user Michiyo652 got a bit emotional and commented:

“This makes me want to cry. I’m getting married and he won’t be there. He died when I 18 but he was one on the most remarkable men I have ever met and known. Dads around the world need more love from the media.”

With all the ups and downs that come with fatherhood, it is absolutely appropriate that we do pay tribute to these awesome men – whether it’s Father’s Day or not.

Go spread the love by sharing this video with your friends on social media.
