Doctor Appears On Virtual Court While Performing Surgery

“Yes, I'm in an operating room right now. I'm available for trial. Go right ahead.”

  • Dr Scott Green, a plastic surgeon from Sacramento, is currently under investigation after attending a virtual traffic trial while operating on a patient.
  • Judge and court commissioner Gary Link felt uncomfortable about the situation and asked for another date.
  • The Medical Board of California is launching a probe to look into the incident.

A plastic surgeon from Sacramento, California is currently under fire for making a court appearance via Zoom while performing a surgery on a patient. The judge was surprised when Dr Scott Green faced his virtual traffic trial while in the middle of an operation.

Naturally, the judge was obviously in disbelief and immediately asked to reschedule the trial.

When asked if he was in the operating room, Green simply responded:

“’I am, sir. Yes, I’m in an operating room right now. I’m available for trial. Go right ahead.”

Judge Gary Link, the court commissioner, couldn’t help but ask:

“So unless I’m mistaken, I’m seeing a defendant that’s in the middle of an operating room appearing to be actively engaged in providing services to a patient. Is that correct, Mr. Green? Or should I say Dr Green?”

“I do not feel comfortable for the welfare of a patient if you’re in the process of operating that I would put on a trial notwithstanding the fact the officer is here today,” he also added.

Green insisted that he was okay about attending the trial as he had another surgeon with him doing the surgery but the judge didn’t budge.

“I don’t think so,” Link replied. “I don’t think that’s appropriate. I’m going to come up with a different date – when you’re not actively involved or participating and attending to the needs of a patient… I’m concerned about the welfare of the patient based on what I’m seeing.”

Naturally, the doctor ended up getting bashed by netizens for what he did.

One netizen wrote:

“This is arrogance saying ‘I am too important and busy to bother with things ordinary people deal with.’”

Another commented:

“Totally disgusting. He needs to loose his medical license. It’s not like he was in the middle of working on a car, it’s a human! Why would this need to be looked into, clearly he was negligent and not focused on the patient.”

The Medical Board of California has since confirmed that the incident will be investigated. According to a spokesperson, the board “expects physicians to follow the standard of care when treating their patients.”
