In the outset, it may appear like joining a gang has its perks. For instance, you get to be in a group with like-minded individuals plus you will never have to fight battles all alone.

Still, being part of one comes with its cons as well. Some gangs in the world have rituals that are so disgusting or plainly risky, you are basically putting your life in jeopardy as you try to join their group.

#1. The Aryan Brotherhood

This brotherhood has quite the reputation as the “deadliest gang” in the prison. The requirement for newbies? They need to kill at least two people, whether it be their fellow prison inmates or the prison guards.

If you can’t stomach that, you are not welcome to their gang.

#2. Hell’s Angels

According to a research conducted by Hunter S Thompson, newbies get kicked as they join the Hell’s Angels. They also get dumped with urine and animal dung – and they are not allowed to change their clothes for the rest of the day.

#3. MS-13

Mara Salvatrucha 13, or more popularly known as MS-13, also implements brutal initiation rituals.

Men who join their international crime gang are required to commit severe acts of violence while women have to be part of a “sexed in” ritual with male MS-13 members.

#4. Knights Templar Cartel

Members of this gang are usually those from the now-defunct criminal organization La Familia Michoacana.

The group prohibits drug use and killing. Also, they say they believe in respecting women and children. Ironically, however, new members have to eat a child’s heart procured from one of the gang’s organ-trafficking networks.

No pun intended but that is completely heartless!

#5. Chinese Triads

There’s no turning back when you try to join the Chinese Triads. As a new member, you will have to drink a concoction of the blood of the gang members and other new recruits. If you fail to drink that, you’re dead – like literally! They’ll kill you right there and then.

#6. United Blood Nation

Another much-feared gang and, yes, another one that has to do with blood is the United Blood Nation. Started in 1993 by Deadeye and OG Mack, the gang requires new recruits to draw blood of a fellow inmate by slashing their face with a boxcutter. They also have to yell out “013” before the attack.

#7. Mac Baller Brims

As a YG (young gangsta), you have to prove your worth to the group by carrying out some tasks for them – such as assassinating someone.

#8. The Latin Kings

Known as the most wanted gang in Chicago, new members have to do the most absurd of things. Apart from engaging in violence, recruits may have to steal military weapons or even commit cannibalism.

#9. Numbers Gang

One of the established gang members will ask a recruit a seemingly simple question – what would you do if it was raining and you only had one umbrella?

The answer to this question, however, will determine what kind of initiation that person will go through. If he says he’ll share the umbrella, then he’s in for some sex work. If, on the other hand, he says he’ll step into the rain with the other gang member, the recruit must then assault a prison guard and endure the beating without making any noise.

#10. Bombarding Master Handan

As you can probably tell from the photo, new members of this Taiwanese crime syndicate gets some firecrackers thrown to them. This usually takes place during the Taiwanese Lantern Festival.

#11. Ku Klux Klan

Of course, there’s the Ku Klux Klan – the group known for their racial hatred against black Americans. To join the group, recruits have to burn a crucifix. Christian members of the KKK justified the act by saying they were just “lighting” the cross, not destroying it.

#12. Elite Boys

Members of this group belong to the elite class and many of them are students of prestigious schools such as the Cambridge University. Their rituals, although not as violent as the others mentioned earlier, are gross and disturbing.

Recruits have to eat raw fish, suffer public humiliation, and even endure being urinated down their throats.
