Daniel Craig Says A Woman ‘Should Be Considered’ To Be The Next James Bond

So... Jane Bond?

James Bond actor Daniel Craig has said it himself – he’s fine with a woman replacing him in the iconic role once he leaves the franchise. During an interview, the star was asked about who he thinks should be the next take the role and he said the filmmakers should look beyond male actors.

It should, of course, be noted that since the fictional secret agent appeared onscreen, t has always been played by men. Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and Pierce Brosnan are just a few of those celebrities who took the 007 codename before Craig donned the role from 2005 to the present time.

In an Entertainment Tonight interview, Craig said he’d be okay if the next James Bond isn’t male or isn’t white.

He shared:

“I think that everybody should be considered. Also for women and for African-Americans, there should be great parts anyway, across the board.”

Before Craig, former Bond girl Madeline Smith likewise pointed out that she believes a woman should also be allowed to play the iconic role.

She told This Morning:

“I cannot see any reason why ultimately, a woman, a lady, a girl, cannot play the James Bond character.

“What would a woman bring to the role? Sensitivity. Sex. I don’t necessarily advocate having a woman… but times have changed. Women play a far greater role now.”

The next Bond villain.

So far, there’s recently been a confirmation that Rami Malek, who gained mainstream success in his role as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, will be playing the villain in the next movie Bond 25.

Meanwhile, Good Morning Britain’s Piers Morgan was quick to slam Craig for his controversial remarks.

The host said:

“Daniel Craig, fresh from papoose-gate, has now decided the next James Bond should probably be a woman.

“Why shouldn’t James Bond be a woman? Well here are two reasons: name is James Bond there’s a clue in the name and James Bond is a man.

“James Bond was written as a man. James Bond should remain a man.

“James Bond is a towering monument of masculinity so why would anyone in the entire world, least of all women who all secretly fantasize about James Bond, now want him to become a woman?

“Why would you ruin a franchise?”

Additionally, James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli has previously clarified that, yes, James Bond will always be a male character.

She said:

“Bond is male. He’s a male character. He was written as a male and I think he’ll probably stay as a male.

“And that’s fine. We don’t have to turn male characters into women. Let’s just create more female characters and make the story fit those female characters.”
