Dad Locked Out Of iPad For 47 Years After Toddler Tries To Access It

There are two main lessons to take from this. 1. Always back up your devices, and 2. Never trust a toddler.

Technology can be a tricky thing to deal with, especially if your three-year-old kid is accessing the expensive piece of consumer technology. One could surely say that it is a risky move and one dad learned it the hard way.

Sure, we’ve all been locked out of our electronic devices at the hands of our toddlers – but never for 47 years! This is the dilemma that Evan Osnos is dealing with after his son tried accessing his iPad with the wrong passcode.

Parents are forever trying to limit screen time for their young kids but sometimes, just to get some peace, they give in and surrender their phone or a tablet to keep the kids entertained.

So just like most parents, Evan gave his young son his iPad to play with. But he ended up taking to social media to ask for help after his preschool-aged child had quickly transformed his device into a half-century-long nightmare.

He tweeted:

“Uh, this looks fake but, alas, it’s our iPad today after 3-year-old tried (repeatedly) to unlock. Ideas?”

The New Yorker magazine writer shared a photo of his disabled iPad screen promising this was the real deal. On the screen was a message advising the user to try entering a password again in 25,536,442 minutes, or 47 years.

The security lock on Apple’s devices increases in time every time an incorrect password is entered. For it to be locked for more than 25 and a half million minutes, his child must have been trying to unlock the device numerous times.

Many social media users sent the baffled dad funny replies.

Some of the comments read:

“I would just wait it out.”

“Reboot your 3 y.o.”

“Time travel seems to be your best bet.”

Evan updated everyone on April 8, saying that he was still locked out of his iPad.

He shared:

“It’s down a few hundred minutes from yesterday, but it looks like we’ve still got 25 million minutes to go.”
