Experts Reveal Countries Most Likely To Withstand The Horrors of Climate Change

Take a look and find out how prepared your country is!

Climate change is real, and it’s already happening now. But despite the huge threat it imposes, some people remain skeptical. They still think that it’s nothing but a ploy from the government to inflict fear. Seriously though, how can it be a ploy if there’s every evidence that can back it up?

A few years ago, the University of Notre Dame revealed an index suggesting the possible nations that were either more or less likely to be affected. It was coined the Notre Dame Global Adaptation Initiative (ND-GAIN). Fast forward today, it’s starting to make noise on the web surface.

Climate change is real, people. It’s inevitable.

ND-GAIN is a comprehensive index that basically pinpoints the vulnerability of a certain country and its readiness. It looks at a country’s overall infrastructure, food resources, and technological capacity, among others. It even studies the government’s preparedness when it comes to casualties caused by climate change. All of these are put into account.

A team at Eco Experts came up with a detailed map ranking five of the best and worst nations when it comes to surviving climate change. The ranking (below), in particular, was done by subtracting their vulnerability against readiness.

Countries likely to survive climate change:

  1. Denmark
  2. New Zealand
  3. Norway
  4. Singapore
  5. United Kingdom

Countries least likely to survive climate change:

  1. Central African Republic
  2. Chad
  3. Eritrea
  4. Burundi
  5. Sudan
The US sits at #11, with Australia being at #13 and Canada at #14. China and India falls at #48 and #119, respectively.

Judging by the map, it cannot be denied that there’s an interesting pattern. To simply put it, the richest and most developed countries are the ones apt and prepared to fight climate change. The poorest, on the other hand, speak otherwise.

Here’s the full ranking from ND-GAIN’s official site. As you might have noticed, most of the prominent and/or well-known countries fall after the top 10 ranking. The Land of the Rising Sun, Japan, falls at #17. France, on the other hand, sits at #15 alongside Kim Jong-Un’s North Korea. Countries such as Spain and Italy belong to #27 and #29, respectively. Meanwhile, Third World countries such as Malaysia (#40) and Philippines (#97) fall behind.

Experts claim that, ironically, countries that suffer from prolific polluters are the ones likely to be affected. This is where the titular Paris agreement came into existence. It is created to specifically encourage wealthier countries to help the poorer countries.

Most of these regions’ countries will either be in a state of collapse or, worse, uninhabitable.

Of course, this does not mean that the wealthier countries wouldn’t be affected. America, for example, is expected to experience refugee crisis due to climate change. There will be natural disasters from almost all part of the country, while economic recession is expected to blow come 2100.

It should be noted that the index does not only cover a country as a whole. It also looks at a regional level. Meaning to say, those neighborhoods with little to none support from the government will most likely suffer climate change effects at a huge degree.
