It’s always a concern if your family doesn’t approve of your significant other. Somehow, you feel torn in between because you love both parties and so you’d probably want to talk to your parents about the situation.

One Chinese woman, however, was “treated like an animal” by her own parents just because they didn’t approve of her boyfriend. In fact, the family locked her up in a shed and she had to sleep on piles of straw for 6 years.

Zhang Qi, 24, was locked up by her parents in a shed.

She was “allegedly forced into the dilapidated building in Jingang in central China’s Hubei province, after her mother and father ordered her to split up with her lover,” the Daily Mail reported.

This was despite the fact that she repeatedly insisted that the relationship was already over.

Zhang attempted to escape several times but her parents told everyone in the village that she was mentally ill so they just have to lock her up for her own good.

However, 50-year-old Chow Jen, one of the residents, decided to do something about the problem by taking photos and posting them online. This was after his disappointment about the lack of action from local authorities.

Chow shared:

“Her parents are powerful people here and everyone was told not to interfere.

“Everyone knew about the girl in the house. I moved away and only come back to visit occasionally so I don’t care about their threats, and that’s why I was happy to expose these pictures online after the local authorities refused to do anything.”

The concerned resident further said:

“Every time I came back for Chinese New Year I went to visit her secretly.

“On my latest visit though I saw her lying on a pile of straw with a couple of blankets and some food around her and I just decided enough was enough.”

“Whether what they say about her having mental problems is true or not, she is being treated like an animal here and I’m sick of it so I contacted the police, and then posted the images online.”

Unfortunately, there hasn’t been an “official comment on the claims or on the current status of the young woman since the images were posted,” the DailyMail mentioned.
