Extreme sports and other action-packed activities have always appealed to adventure-seekers. They’re all after the adrenaline rush. Out of all the daring activities, the bungee jump is, perhaps, the “easiest” to do.

After all, bungee jumping doesn’t require any special skills. All you have to do is gather your courage and jump. This was most likely the motivation of a woman who decided to jump off the La Negra Bridge in the province of Florida in Bolivia.

The woman seemed happy and relaxed during the final safety check.

The woman had tapped the services of adventure tours company Andean Trek to organize the bungee jumping session for her. Since they’ve been organizing bungee jumps and other similar activities for years, the woman trusted them.

Right before the woman did her bungee jump, an Andean Trek guide gives her some final tips. The man also performs safety checks on the woman’s bungee jumping equipment.

She was all smiles before she took the plunge.

Meanwhile, several onlookers who wanted to see the woman make her jump gathered near the bridge.

By some miracle, the woman survived her shocking crash into the shallow riverbed. Still, everyone was horrified to have witnessed her near-death plunge. Onlookers scrambled to call an ambulance. The woman was in great pain when she was taken to a clinic in the nearby city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra for treatment. Doctors said she only suffered minor injuries and they discharged her after a few days. Andean Trek paid for her medical bills.

It was later discovered that despite the safety checks, the rope brake failed on the woman’s bungee jumping gear. In a Mail Online report by Nick Enoch, Andean Trek director Oscar Sandoval was quoted as saying,

“It was a human mistake. Somebody did something wrong. We are checking the videos in order to know who or what released the brake of the rope. It is the first time something like this has happened to us. We have a lot of years of experience.”

That said, the video of the failed bungee jump is now being used as a cautionary tale for Bolivia’s tour operators.
