Barber Meticulously Covered His Shop’s Floor With 70,000 Pennies

Worth every penny! These penny tiles prove that floors can still look fancy without spending a fortune.

Sometimes, an establishment’s interior can make or break a business. In most cases, business owners have no choice but to spend thousands of dollars in improving the overall look of their commercial space. Everything can make an impact – from walls to flooring and even the littlest decoration. However, not everyone is willing to shell out a big amount of money on these improvements.

Take for instance, Brett Davies, owner of BS4 Barbers in Dudley, West Midlands. Initially, Davies and his team decided that it’s time to get a brand new flooring for the shop. But after getting an estimate of £1,000 ($1300) on expenses, Davies came up with a better idea.

The shop owner and his staff teamed up to cover the 10ft x 15ft shop floor with 70,000 pieces of pennies.

Apparently, the shop used to have linoleum flooring. However, Davies finds it easily marked, thus prompting him to replace it. He said:

“We wanted a new floor but the cost of getting it done was expensive and we wanted to do something a bit more unusual, so we looked at a few different ideas online.”

Eager on fulfilling the eye-catching floor project, the barber shop owner had to take out their own cash from the bank amounting to £700 ($900) in coins. Davies explained:

“We had to take our own cash to the bank and we had to take hundreds of pennies out a day. In the end, we took out £700 worth of pennies. That’s 70,000 coins.”

The owner then used all the pennies to cover the entire floor.

Davies and his crew painstakingly glued every single penny to the ground for a full week. They also hired someone to grout the gaps after.

“It took us about a week to lay all the pennies down and then we had to get someone to grout the gaps. It seemed to take forever.”

The floor project took almost three months to complete.

Eventually, all their creativity and hard work paid off.

The BS4 Barbers attracted a lot of customers and visitors showing interest in the floor.

Davies shared:

“We have had a lot of interest in the floor, to be fair. Passers-by keep coming into the shop to take a few photos. We have gained a lot of business from it.”
