Anti-Vaxxers Briefly Shut Down Large COVID-19 Vaccination Site in LA

"If you don't want the vaccine fine, but there are millions of Angelenos that do. 16,000 of your neighbors have died, so get out of the way."

  • Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium had to be temporarily shut down for almost an hour after anti-vaccine protesers blocked its entrance.
  • The protesters did not wear masks and carried signs outside the site.
  • According to authorities, everyone scheduled to receive vaccination that day still got their shots despite the disruption.

Los Angeles, California’s Dodger Stadium serves as a venue for administering the coronavirus vaccine to the public. However, the site had to be temporarily shut down last Saturday, January 30, after protesters blocked its entrance for about an hour.

According to reports, around 50 anti-vaccine protesters gathered outside the stadium, carrying signs and discouraging others from receiving the vaccine. As can be seen in the photos, many of the protesters also did not wear masks.

“A new level of evil.”

Singer Adam Michaelson, who brought his elderly mom to the site, commented about the protest, saying:

“It’s just disappointing. I realize there are people who have been anti-vaxxers for a while but to take this extra step of trying to prevent other people from getting it just to me seems like a whole new level of evil.”

Despite the delay, authorities reported it did not affect the actual number of people who got vaccinated that day as no appointments were canceled.

“We remain committed to vaccinating Angelenos as quickly and safely as possible,” shared Andrea Garcia, spokeswoman of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.

Governor Gavin Newsom later posted on Twitter, writing that the stadium is again “back up and running.”

He also added:

“CA is working around the clock to provide life-saving vaccines to those on the frontlines of this pandemic… We will not be deterred or threatened.”

No protesters were arrested by the police.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles City Council President Nury Martinez reminded anti-vaxxers:

“If you don’t want the vaccine fine, but there are millions of Angelenos that do. 16,000 of your neighbors have died, so get out of the way.”
