In today’s society where sex sells, you sometimes start to wonder about the first time people were given first-hand exposure to sex. You might wonder how old people usually are the first time they engage in sexual intercourse, and introspectively, if your age is within the average in your country.

To answer this query, Durex has released the figures that show how old the average person from 45 countries was when they lost their virginity.

Here’s some of the data we got.

Are teens as frisky as you think they are in your country?

Apparently, the country with the oldest population to lose their virginity is Malaysia, where the average age is at 23 years old. This is followed closely by India at 22.9 years old, and Singapore at 22.8. This may be due to both the conservative culture regarding sexuality, and with this the lack of public education regarding sex.

Some countries are way more conservative about sex than others.

In fact, the top 7 countries folks who waited a lot longer to be deflowered are from Asian countries like China (22.1), Thailand (20.5), Hong Kong (20.2), and Vietnam (19.7).

As for the youngest ones to lose their v-card, the top 5 spots are held by Scandinavian countries with Iceland at 15.6, Denmark at 16.1, Sweden at 16.2, Norway at 16.5, and Finland at 16.5.

According to the study, Scandinavian teens are the youngest to lose their virginity.

What about other countries? While the stereotype is that Italians and French are an amorous bunch, the average age for losing their virginity is at around 18, which is around the same age as other countries like the UK, Russia, Mexico, and South Africa.

The United States has an interesting number at 18, flat. It’s as if these teens jumped at the chance to lose their virginity the minute they reach legal age!

So for your perusal (and perhaps to check if you popped your proverbial cherry at around the same age as your countrymen), here’s the full list.
