Many people aspire to have clear and blemish-free skin. Unfortunately, not everyone is blessed with a glowing, spotless epidermis.

In particular, blackheads are a major concern. Composed of embedded dirt and oil in large pores, they are the bane of many skin-conscious individuals.

Instead of buying expensive toners, scrubs and steamers that promise to rid the skin of blackheads, why not root around in your pantry or medicine cabinet to find safer, more natural, and cost-efficient means of ridding your skin of blackheads?

Here are 9 effective natural remedies you can try:

#1. Honey and sugar on a lemon

Cut a lemon in two and pour some honey into one of the halves. Then, sprinkle a bit of cane sugar on top and massage his natural exfoliating sponge into areas of your skin with blackheads. Do this once a week and reap results.

#2. Vaseline and plastic wrap

Ah, petroleum jelly and its many uses. Use this trick right after a shower while your pores are still open from the hot water. Apply Vaseline on your blackheads and place some plastic wrap over it. Then apply a hot towel and leave it there until it cools down. Next, remove your makeshift mask and tissue off any remaining Vaseline and gently squeeze out the blackheads to remove them. You’ll be surprised at how easily they come out.

#3. Coconut oil and essential oils

Soften ¼ of a cup of coconut oil in the microwave and combine with 10 drops of your favorite essential oils. Lemon juice or tea tree oil will do as well. Dip a cotton ball into your smooth concoction and apply like a toner to your face each morning.

#4. Cinnamon and oat flour

blackheads-4

Mix one teaspoon of cinnamon powder with another teaspoon of oat flour. Add water and mix until you have the consistency of thick cream. Rub this tingly scrub on your face for about a minute and rinse off with cold water in a twice-a-month routine.

#5. Activated charcoal and green clay

blackheads-5

In a small bowl with half a teaspoon of warm water, mix a teaspoon of green clay and half a teaspoon of activated charcoal powder until smoothly blended. Apply this on your face as a mask and let sit until it dries off. Rinse well with cold water. Do this at least twice a week for squeaky clean pores.

#6. Coconut oil and coffee grounds

blackheads-6

Warm up ½ cup of coconut oil and combine with a cup of coffee grounds. Used grounds will do, but fresh is better. You now have a fragrant coffee scrub to use on your face. After scrubbing, leave on for five minutes, then rinse with cold water. This once-a-week cleansing routine will leave your skin smooth and wide awake.

#7. Aloe vera, white clay and essential oils

blackheads-7

Mix a teaspoon of aloe vera gel to two teaspoons of white clay. Combine them with a teaspoon of distilled water, and a couple of drops of your favorite essential oils until smooth. Apply the mixture to your face as a mask and let sit for 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water in a twice-a-month routine.

#8. Oatmeal and honey with yogurt and olive oil

Combine ¼ cup of oatmeal, two teaspoons of yogurt, two teaspoons of honey and two teaspoons of olive oil in your food processor and blend. Apply as a scrub, moving in circular motions for about two minutes, then wash it all off with warm water. If you have sensitive skin, use it as a seven-minute mask instead.

#9. Sugar and honey with olive oil and vanilla extract

blackheads-9

Mix ¼ cup of white sugar and ¼ cup of brown sugar in a bowl. Stir in some olive oil, one tablespoon of honey, and half a teaspoon of vanilla extract. When everything is combined smoothly, use as a scrub on your blackheads once a week and rinse off with warm water.
