6-Year-Old Twins Married In Lavish Ceremony Arranged By Own Parents

The twins are believed to have been lovers in their past lives and need to be married to avoid bad luck.

Most six-year-olds are usually concerned with what games to play. However, a pair of twins has just had to deal with marriage. The young girl and boy were married in a lavish ceremony that was actually arranged by their own parents. The reason behind it has something to do with their past lives.

The fraternal twins were born in September 2012 in Samut Prakan, which is close to Bangkok, Thailand. As soon as they were born, the parents of the boy nicknamed Guitar and his sister Kiwi were already convinced that the children needed to be married. This is because of a Buddhist belief that male and female twins have ‘karma’ from relationships in their previous life and have been re-born together. When this happens, it is believed that a debt has not been settled.

The twins’ father Amornsan Sunthorn Malirat and his wife Phacharaporn were understandably concerned about the children. After all, Buddhists believe that the twins would need to be married as soon as possible otherwise they will experience bad luck. As a remedy, the parents splurged on an expensive wedding ceremony so Guitar and Kiwi can be wed.

The traditional yet lavish ceremony started with a street procession as well as a game where the groom had to pass nine ‘gates’ to find his bride. In addition to that, Guitar had to pay a dowry of 200,000 baht ($1,264) in cash and gold before he could marry Kiwi.

The twins’ mother was pleased with how gracefully her children had gone through the ceremony. “They were both so sweet during their wedding,” she said.

It’s certainly a surprising custom but people can rest assured that the ceremony is not legally binding. This means that the twins can still seek out their own partners when they are older.

Phacharaporn firmly believes that the ceremony will ensure that the twins will be free from bad luck or sickness.

“They will be the best of friends for the rest of their lives. They’ll be able to find their own husband or wife when their older. But this ceremony will always be important for them.”
