According to NASA, the Milky Way has 100 billion to 400 billion stars. However, it pales in comparison when Nature published an article in 2015 claiming that there are 3.04 trillion trees around the world.

#2. The color of the oxygen is pale blue.

Oxygen as gas is colorless and odorless. However, when it is in a solid or liquid form, it displays a pale blue color.

#3. One letter in the alphabet is not used in the periodic table.

#4. Bananas have a radioactive element.

The potassium content of bananas decays, so it is considered as slightly radioactive. But don’t worry because you need to consume 10,000,000 bananas all at once before you die of radiation poisoning.

#5. Water when hot freezes faster compared to cold water.

Erasto Mpemba, a student in Tanzania, discovered and told his teacher that a hot ice cream mixture froze faster than the cold mixture. Thus, the term Mpemba effect. Scientists explained that the velocity of hot water has a specific disposition that allows it to freeze faster.

#6. Cold water warms up faster than hot water.

This effect is the inverse Mpemba effect.

#7. Humans have genes from fungi.

In 2015, the University of Cambridge offered an assumption that 1 percent of the human genome came from plants.

#8. The DNA of man covers the distance between the sun and Earth a hundred times.

The human genes have more than 3 billion base pairs of DNA and 25,000+ genes in the genome which exist in each of the body’s 10 trillion cells.

#9. It’s raining diamonds on some planets.

Scientists believed that Jupiter, Neptune, Saturn, and Uranus could produce diamonds because of the extreme pressure in their atmospheres which crystallize carbon atoms. Another team of researchers had a theory that every year, more than 2.2 million pounds of diamond fall from the sky of Saturn.

#10. You have the ability to make a ball fly.

Try spinning a ball when you are dropping it; you will see it flying through the air as it drops down. This is called the Magnus effect.

#11. Water can simultaneously exist in three different states.

At extreme temperature, water exists as solid, gas, and liquid all at once. It is the Triple Boil effect.

#12. There is only one mammal with wings.

Bats are mammals that can fly.

#13. Helium works against gravity.

Cooling down helium in extreme temperature (-273˚C or -460˚F) makes it a super fluid. It can flow non-stop like a fountain, leak through cracks in a container, or climb up and over a glass.

#14. Solar flares are extremely dangerous.

They release potent energy which is equal to 100-megaton atomic bombs that explode at once.

#15. Burping is impossible in space.

The lack of gravity in space prevents gas to separate from solid and liquid particles of foods that you eat, so instead of burping, you will puke.

#16. Almost half of the human body is bacteria.

One study in 2014 estimates that there are 30 trillion human cells and 339 trillion bacteria inside the human body.

#17. More men are colorblind compared to women.

The National Eye Institute explained that genes on men’s X chromosome could cause color blindness. Women, on the other hand, may have impaired genes in one of their 2 X chromosomes but a well-functioning gene on another takes over to cover the loss.

#18. We can only imagine what lies in the other parts of the universe.

Ninety-six percent of the universe is invisible to human eyes. They are comprised of dark energy and dark matter which prevent light from entering and illuminating the interior parts.

This mind-blowing discoveries and facts are amazing. As science and technology evolve, more truths are coming out to uncover the hidden mysteries of life.
