12-Year-Old Boy Shoots Home Intruder Who Shot His Grandmother In The Leg

"[The intruder] just shot his grandma…He would have shot him too, he would've shot me too, he would've killed us all,"

  • Two masked robbers entered Ellis’ home in Goldsboro, North Carolina, and demanded cash. They also shot the old lady in the leg.
  • Local police confirmed that “A 12-year-old juvenile occupant of the residence shot at the suspects with a firearm in self-defense, causing them to flee the area.”
  • One of the intruders was apprehended near the house and was taken to a health center, where he died of gunshot wounds.

Linda Ellis’ grandson may be just 12 years old, but this didn’t stop the young boy from doing what was needed to defend her from intruders who intended rob her home.

At around 1 am on February 13, two masked robbers entered Ellis’ home in Goldsboro, North Carolina, and demanded cash. They also shot the 73-year-old lady in the leg, which prompted her grandson to jump into her defense.

Local police confirmed that “A 12-year-old juvenile occupant of the residence shot at the suspects with a firearm in self-defense, causing them to flee the area.”

One of the intruders was identified as 19-year-old Khalil Herring, who was later found by the police at an intersection a half block from Ellis’ apartment.

He was taken to a health facility where he died of gunshot wounds.

Ellis was also taken to the hospital. Luckily, she was in good condition and was released shortly.

According to Randolph Bunn, Ellis’ son and the boy’s grand uncle, “They came in the house, I open the door, I open it, and they came in there.”

He said that one of the guys had a gun and they managed to put Randolph down on the ground. His mother was in the kitchen and he had no idea why the men shot her. The boy apparently opened fire in self-defense.

“[The intruder] just shot his grandma… He would have shot him too, he would’ve shot me too, he would’ve killed us all,” Randolph said.

Chiquita Coley, Ellis’ great niece, received a call about what happened at the house. She said that she couldn’t believe Ellis was shot because “she’s a good person.”

“Why would somebody come into her house and do this? It’s got to stop,” Chiquita said. She added that her aunt was much loved in the community.

“I don’t know what they’re thinking around here in Goldsboro, but it’s got to stop.”

The investigation is ongoing and another arrest has yet to be made regarding the other suspect. But the boy will not be facing charges from the incident. Coley said that he and the rest of the family are “holding it together.”
