A 27-year-old woman from Alabama shared graphic selfies on Facebook in an attempt to warn people about the dangers of tanning.

As a teenager, Tawny Willoughby used the tanning bed about four to five times a week. She had no idea frequent tanning would ultimately give her skin cancer.

Tawny was initially diagnosed with the deadly disease at the age of 21. Since then, Tawny has had basal cell carcinoma five times and squamous cell carcinoma once.

Now a mother of a two-year-old boy, Tawny regrets the lifestyle choice she made back then. As of the moment, she pays her dermatologist a visit every 6 to 12 months, usually to have a cancerous piece of skin removed.

She had no idea her lifestyle choice would result to this.

Back in highschool, Tawny and her friends didn’t have any clue they could get skin cancer from tanning.

“If anyone needs a little motivation to not lay in the tanning bed and sun…this is what skin cancer treatment can look like.”

Instead of tanning, she encourages people to wear a sunscreen and get a spray tan.

“Don’t let tanning prevent you from seeing your children grow up.”
